Open Standards Compliance
Open Standards enable the sharing of information, the interoperability of systems, and the findability of information. Support for these standards has been a core requirement in the development of AIMS4.
Metadata standards
- Dublin Core - internationally recognised, interoperable metadata standard
- AGLS - Australian metadata standard
- Social Change Online Standard - adopts mandatory fields from Dublin Core and AGLS and add fields relevant to client sectors
Technology standards
- XML - Open standard for packaging data (W3C)
- XML interfaces:
- WFS (Web Feature Server) - lets AIMS4 communicate mapping and non-mapping information with other systems
- OAI (Open Archives Initiative) - allows for content to be shared and queried
- LDAP Compliant Client (Light-Weight Directory Access Protocols) - easily integrate your user management system with AIMS4
- XHTML/HTML - open standard method for displaying web pages (W3C)
- CSS - open standard for defining how a webpage should be styled (W3C)
- RSS - allows for content to be syndicated and shared
- SSL - provides secure website connection for online payments and other data exchange
